Alf Bold was drawn to films made by women and saw in them a unique innovation and urgency – in both content and form. Highly unusual at that time, Bold viewed these films on equal terms and always positioned them alongside their male colleagues. This program showcased films by George Kuchar, Len Lye, Carolee Schneeman, Ernie Gehr, Marjorie Keller, Bruce Baillie and Ann Severson, whose NEAR THE BIG CHAKRA (1971) was one of the most radical films of the time: “An unhurried view of 37 human vaginas - ranging in age from three months to 56 years.” (Canyon Cinema)
